Application of the phase space probability method in the study of J/psi-mesons production in the ZEUS detector at the electron-proton collider HERA

Basic principles of the phase space probability method are described. The performance of the method is studied for muon identification in the (depleted) uranium-scintillator calorimeter of the ZEUS detector which is in operation at the electron-proton collider HERA. The method provides lepton identification with high efficiency and low hadron contamination.
